Kanchi Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswathi on Thursday told a court in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, that he had been falsely implicated in the Sankararaman murder case, and that he would not get justice if he were put in police custody.
"It will not be honest and justice will not be there as compared to being in judicial custody," he said replying to questions from First Class Judicial Magistrate I G Uttamaraja regarding the police's application seeking his custody for five days.
He said he was not informed that he was being arrested and was only told that he was being taken to the Sankara Mutt for investigation.
The seer was brought to Kanchipuram from the Vellore prison, where he is lodged, for being produced before the judicial magistrate in connection with the police petition.
Throughout the proceedings from 1245 IST to 1530 IST, the Shankaracharya was allowed to sit on a stool. When the magistrate asked him about his health, he said, "I cannot say it is normal."
When the magistrate told him that according to the doctors he was normal, the seer disagreed.
