A flood warning has been issued in 11 districts, downstream from the Stanley reservoir at Mettur, of Tamil Nadu following heavy discharge from reservoirs in Karnataka due to good rains, official sources said.
On October 24, the administration had issued a similar warning, when the resevoir received record inflows of 2.24 lakh cusecs and discharged over 2 lakh cusecs.
Salem District Collector A Sukumaran told PTI that Mettur recorded a heavy rainfall of 9.2 cm and that nearby villages like Andigounderpatti and Madhaiyankuttai had been affected.
The water level this morning was 120.25 ft against its capacity of 120 ft. The inflow was 75,176 cusecs and outflow 74,933 cusecs.
Meanwhile, Krishnagiri District Collector Mangatram Sharma told PTI that Hosur experienced 7 cm of rainfall Tuesday night.
He said the government has allotted Rs 3 crore to take up relief work in areas battered by rains on October 24.
The Public Works Department, Highways Department and panchayat unions had been entrusted with the task of repairing roads, he said.
