All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo Jayalalithaa on Tuesday termed as impractical, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's poll promise of giving colour television sets to all families in the state.
Speaking to reporters at Tiruvarur, where she campaigned for her party nominees, she said that if the government were to give colour televisions to all families who had ration cards, it would cost the exchequer a whopping Rs 15,000 crore.
"Where will one go for the money," she asked.
Earlier, she charged the DMK with pledging the interests of Cauvery delta farmers for the sake of power at New Delhi. The DMK's election manifesto did not contain even a single word on the Cauvery issue, she told a series of public meetings in the Cauvery delta districts of Cuddalore, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.
She said DMK president M Karunanidhi had betrayed the interests of Delta farmers. The AIADMK, she said, would fight till the last to safeguard the interests of Delta farmers.
Jayalalithaa said the government had told the Cauvery water disputes tribunal that only a river water authority with full powers to implement its final award and to compel Karnataka to release water, could be a solution to the long standing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
