All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham workers Friday celebrated party supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's 58th birthday in a grand style by organising mass feeding programmes and special poojas in temples across the state.
The supporters, particularly ticket hopefuls for the assembly polls, celebrated the day in different ways in a bid to catch her eyes as well as the media.
While former legislator Sakkubai went around the presiding deity of Periypalayam temple in Tiruvallore district dressed in neem leaves, Rural Industries Minister B Valarmathy said she would be presenting silver anklets to girl children born today in her Alandur constituency.
Lot of partymen took mun soru (food served on bare floor), a custom prevalent in a number of temples in rural areas of the state.
The party volunteers then vowed to work for the victory of the AIADMK in the coming assembly polls.
Special poojas were organised in all important temples in the state.
People were seen thronging her house in the city with flowers. However, Jayalalithaa preferred not to come outside.
Governor S S Barnala greeted her. "I extend my heartiest greeting and good wishes to you on your birthday. I also wish you a long and healthy life in you service to the people of Tamil Nadu," he said.
