Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on Wednesday took issue with his bete noire and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam supremo J Jayalalithaa on the Cauvery issue denying her remarks that the state's share was less in the final award when compared to the one granted in the interim award.
In a statement in Chennai, he said in the interim award, the Cauvery Disputes Tribunal had allotted 205 tmc ft of water to Tamil Nadu, of which six tmc ft would go to Puducherry. This means that Tamil Nadu has been allocated 199 tmc ft of water.
In the final award, Tamil Nadu will get 217 tmc ft of water -- 192 tmc ft from Biligundulu and 25 tmc ft for envrionmental purposes between Biligundulu and Mettur.
After the Puducherry's share of seven tmc ft, Tamil Nadu has been allotted 210 tmc ft.
"How one can say that the share in the final verdict was less when compared to the one ordered in the interim award," he asked.
Karunanidhi described as a joke, Jayalalithaa's remarks that the final award of the tribunal was not acceptable while at the same time stating that the Centre should notify the final award in the gazette.
