Popular actress Khushboo surrendered before a court on Wednesday in compliance with a Madras High Court directive while granting her anticipatory bail in connection with a cheating complaint.
Khushboo, who surrendered before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court, executed a personal bond for Rs 10,000 with two sureties for like amount.
Justice R Reghupathy of the High Court had on January 9 granted the anticipatory bail to the actress who apprehended arrest in connection with the complaint by her brother's father-in-law, alleging criminal breach of trust and cheating.
In her bail plea, Khushboo had submitted that since the de facto complainant T N Varkey, settled in the US, desired to fund a Kannada film Janani being produced by her brother Abdullah Khan, they requested that money sent from the US for the purpose be routed through her.
Khushboo said she had received payments of $8,400 and $8,000, totalling approximately Rs 7.80 lakh on August 26, 2002 and, as part of the transaction, had signed an agreement of sale for a flat belonging to her at Bangalore with Varkey.
Contending that she had handed over the amount to her brother, taken receipts from him and sent them to Varkey, she said of late the complainant had started sending her letters to have the flat registered in his name.
Khushboo submitted that she had given her brother the power of attorney to raise funds for the film and using it he had used the flat as collateral security to secure funds from financiers.
