Some fans of the Tamil super star Rajnikanth have launched a political party in Coimbatore in a bid to pressure him to enter into politics.
"Though there is no official word from the headquarters of the fans association at Chennai, the name and flag would be the symbols of aspirations of thousands of fans. We will send requests to 'Shivaji' (the character Rajnikanth portrayed in the movie of the same name) to authorise the symbols," activists of local fans association who launched the party at a meeting in Coimbatore said on Monday night.
The fans, belonging to 'Rajni Narpani Manram', released the flag and announced the party's name as Desiya Dravida Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (DDMMK).
The tricolour flag, in red, white and black, features Rajnikanth's face inside a shining star, was released during the Manram's (association) meeting.
The meeting also passed a resolution requesting their star to stop acting in films and enter politics, the sources said.
Some fans had already pasted wall posters last week, announcing the desire of fans for his entry into politics and giving a broad hint that the party will be named 'Rajnirajyam' on the lines of Prajarajyam floated by Telugu filmstar Chiranjeevi.
