Anjali Vedpathak misfiresThe Rediff TeamIn the women's 50m rifle three position, Anjali Vedpathak of India finished 33rd in a field of 42. Anjali in fact did very well in the prone position, shooting two 98s to total 196. But she then slipped in the other two positions, shooting 92 and 93 standing to total 185; then following up with 92 and 93 in the kneeling position to duplicate that score. The gold in the event was won by Poland's Renata Rozanska Mauer, who shot 684.6 points, Russia's Tatiana Goldobina took the silver with 680.9 and another Russian Maria Feklistovia bagged the bronze (679.9 points). The gold, silver and bronze medallists had shot 585, 585 and 582 in the qualifying rounds. Anjali said she entered the event to gain exposure. ''My main event is air rifle, but because I had got a quota entry, I thought it is worthwhile to compete in this event also.'' Anjali's coach Laszlo Szucsak said considering it was not her main event she did reasonably well. ''This is her first Olympics exposure in the event and going by her score it was not bad.''
