Dempo beat BMFC
for second win
Dempo Sports club, Goa, defeated Bengal Mumbai Football Club, Mumbai, by a solitary first-half goal and collected three points from their second-round match in the Second Division National Football League (final phase) in Pondicherry on Wednesday.
In the second match of the evening, Bhratri Sangha, Kolkata, beat Indian National Football Club 3-0.
Dempo's all-important goal was scored by striker Dudu Omagbemi in the first minute of the match. He he darted in well into meet a centre from Sameer on the right flank and headed into goal.
With this victory, Dempo have six points from two matches while BMFC have three points, from their victory over State Bank of Travancore, Thiruvananthapuram, in their first round match.
Stung by the reverse, BMFC made some quick forays into the rival citadel but could not convert their efforts into goals. Dempo too had several chances and had they capitalised on them they could have led by at least a three-goal margin at the breather.
BMFC held a slight edge in the second session but their strikers fumbled at the finish.
Dempo could have ended up with a 2-0 victory after William Abekka found the net ten minutes into the second session. However, the referee pulled up the striker for handling the ball just before he shot at goal.
