Last-minute goal gives Tollygunge victory
Substitute Asim Biswas's last minute goal gave Tollygunge Aggragami a 2-1 victory over
JCT Mills in a National Football League match at the Salt Lake
stadium in Kolkata on Tuesday.
The talented Biswas produced the match-winning goal just
at the stroke of the long whistle to seal the fate of the
spirited men from Punjab.
The hard-working Akim got the equaliser for the home
team midway through the opening session after Hardeep Gill had
put JCT ahead as early as the 10th minute.
Tollygunge, who won their last match against F C Kochin
by a solitary goal, enjoyed territorial advantage for most
part of the contest and were unlucky not to emerge victorious
by a bigger margin.
Desperate to improve their position on the points table,
JCT began with a flourish and managed to forge ahead in the
10th minute through a brilliant effort by
Hardeep Gill, who capitalised on a defensive lapse.
But the home team managed to neutralise the lead eleven
minutes later when Nigerian import Akim, fed by a gentle pass by striker Moses
Owira, placed the ball into the net with none of the defenders
in position. JCT custodian Arvind Kumar charged out to narrow the
angle but Akim was equal to the task.
Tollygunge had the last laugh when their young striker Asim scored with a prompt shot off a nice move initiated by Akeem.
JCt were unlucky as they had to play with ten players for the
last 66 minutes as their medio Nigerian Stephen had to leave the
ground after receiving a red card.
Referee S Bharat Mani of Karnataka gave marching orders to
Stephen after he kicked Tollygunge medio Sandeep Das in retaliation in the 29th minute.
This apart, three JCT attempts, two by Hardeep Gill and one by
Hardeep Saini hit the Tollygunge crosspiece and post in the first
and the second halves respectively after home 'keeper Sandeep Das was
beaten completely.
