Four Indian shuttlers
in third round

Four Indian shuttlers moved into the third round of the men's singles event at the 17th Commonwealth Games in Manchester on Wednesday.

India No. 1 Pulella Gopichand had it easy against Curwin Cherubin of Barbados, winning 7-2, 7-0, 7-1; Sachin Ratti beat Ola Fagbemi of Nigeria 7-2, 7-0, 7-4; Abhinn Shyam Gupta defeated David Geddes of Northern Ireland 7-2, 7-1, 7-3 and Nikhil Kanetkar ousted Naseer Abdulla Ali Maldives 7-0, 7-1, 7-0.

In the next round Gopichand will face Bruce Topping of Northern Ireland; Sachin Ratti will take on Stuart Brehaut of Australia; Abhinn will face Graham Simpson of Scotland and Kanetkar faces Ian Coombs-Goodfellow of Jersey.

Earlier, India failed to make semi-finals of the mixed team event.
