Indian Bank snatch point from Churchill
Last year's runners-up Churchill Brothers, Goa, were held to a 1-1 draw by Indian Bank, Chennai, in
a seventh National Football League match, played under floodlights at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, in Chennai, on Saturday.
Sri Lankan recruit Kasun Nadika Jayasuriya put the bankmen ahead in the 40th minute but the Goans drew level two minutes later through Noel Wilson, who was on target from a penalty kick.
Indian Bank have seven points from three matches, having
won against ITI, Bangalore, and Dempo Sports Club, Goa, while
Churchil Brothers have two points from three matches.
Earlier, they had drawn 2-2 with Salgaocar and lost 2-3 to Mohun Bagan.
Indian Bank held a clear edge in the first-half though the Goans looked threatening in the last ten minutes of the session.
Indian Bank's goal was the result of some lethargy in the Churchill defence. Husseni Osumanu was slow in clearing the ball and Jayasuriya pounced on the opportunity scored.
