In battles between the minnows, Kenya overcame Ghana and Kazakhstan beat Nigeria in the women's hockey play-off matches at the Afro-Asian Games in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
Kenya came up with a good display and scored a goal in each half to down a spirited Ghana 2-1 at the Gachibowli stadium.
Later, Kazakhstan had a hard time before prevailing over Nigeria 2-0.
The two winning teams will now play-off for 5th-6th positions, while Ghana and Nigeria will battle it out for the last two slots.
India play Korea while China take on South Africa in the semi-finals.
In the first match, Priscah Nafula Wanyama gave Kenya the lead in the 19th minute before Hellen Chemtai Kiprotich made the score 2-0 seven minutes after the breather.
Though Ghana struck back in the 64th minute through Abass Ramatu, it was not enough to give them victory.
Kazakshatan scored twice in seven minutes through Imangaliyeva Gulnara in the 31st minute and Mikhramova Ologa in the 38th.
The final classification matches will be played on Thursday.
