About the Game

Competitors are classified by bodyweight, into 8 categories for men and 7 categories for women.

Competitors decide and declare the weight they are to lift for themselves. For both the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk, a competitor has only 3 attempts to lift the barbell.

The Snatch is an event in which a lifter must lift a barbell above the head in one movement with the arms completely straight.

The Clean and Jerk is an event in which a competitor must lift a barbell first onto the chest (Clean), then, using inertia, lift the barbell above the head in one movement, with the arms completely straight (Jerk).

Competitors are ranked on the basis of record (the total of their best records in the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk).

The 15 medals events are:
Women - 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg, +75kg
Men - 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg, +105kg
