Green planetThe Union petroleum and natural gas ministry will develop a green corridor along the Lucknow-Delhi highway to provide refuelling facility to compressed natural gas vehicles.

"Since, CNG outlets are present only in urban centres, long haul travel by CNG vehicles is difficult due to absence of refuelling facility along the highways," Union minister of state for petroleum and natural gas Jitin Prasada said.

The Lucknow-Delhi Green Corridor will traverse Bareilly, Moradabad, Rampur and Ghaziabad. GAIL India Limited will be the implementing agency of the project.

The aim is to ensure availability of CNG in 200-odd towns of India, including 30 in UP, in the next 5 years.

Besides, GAIL is aggressively working for making available piped natural gas to households.

"GAIL India is giving special focus to Uttar Pradesh in this project and in the next 5 years, almost 70,000 households in Lucknow would be provided piped natural gas," Prasada added.

He said the government wanted to connect all the urban centres with the piped natural gas feeders.

"We are taking several steps to check the adulteration and pilferage of petroleum products, including petrol, diesel, gas and kerosene under Mission 2015 for greater customer satisfaction," the minister underlined.

Meanwhile, the petroleum ministry has also decided to set up consumer councils all over the country for timely redress of consumer grievances. These councils comprising representatives of public sector oil marketing companies and consumers will meet twice every year.

Prasada was here for the inauguration of draw of lots to select LPG distributors under Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitarak Yojana.

Earlier, he also reviewed the progress of public sector oil marketing companies in the northern region.
