The trial proceedings in the Rs 10,000 crore (Rs 100 billion) Satyam scam began in a local court in Hyderabad.

The trial began on the cases filed by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) against the Satyam Computer Services (now Mahindra Satyam) founder chairman Ramalinga Raju and others for violating various provisions of the Company Law.

The court posted the case to July 2 for further hearing. The trail in the cases being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation is yet to begin as the agency has still not been able to question Raju, who has been under treatment at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences for heart and Hepatitis C-related complications for quite some time.

Raju has not been attending the court proceedings since last September. On Monday, a special court posted the CBI application to question Raju through video-conferencing to Wednesday (June 9).

The country's biggest corporate scandal came to light on January 6, 2009 when Raju admitted that he had been cooking the books of the country's fourth largest IT services for years.
