Flag carrier Air India will resume direct flights to Australia after a decade. Flights between Melbourne and Delhi will begin by late October/early November, the company said.

"It will meet a long-felt demand for direct connectivity," Air India said.

The services will meet a long-felt demand for direct connectivity between India and Australia, a press release issued on Wednesday stated.

Apart from serving the Indian diaspora in the region, the new link will cater to the growing demand of business travellers not only between the two countries but also beyond India to the Gulf and Europe, the release said.

The services will be operated with B-777 aircraft on a daily basis. The air services are expected to begin by late October/early November this year.
