As its reach now extends from north Delhi to the satellite city Gurgaon, Delhi Metro's ridership is increasing day-by-day with over 14 lakh people taking a ride on the new age transport system on Monday alone.
Delhi Metro now has five operational lines covering 138 kilometres across the National Capital Region, including Noida and Gurgaon.
Three days after the Central Secretariat-Qutub Minar stretch of the Gurgaon corridor was opened, 14.44 lakh people took the Metro on Tuesday, surpassing the earlier record set on August 26 when 13.60 lakh people travelled by the Metro.
On the newly-inaugurated section from Udyog Bhawan to Saket stations, 86,025 people took the line with Saket registering highest ridership at 14,993 followed by Hauz Khas at 12,853 and AIIMS at 12,634.
The Metro's line 3 (Dwarka Sector 9 to Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar) recorded the maximum ridership at 5,31,058 followed by Line 2 (Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre) at 4,87,063 and Line 1 (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) at 2,80,774, on Tuesday.
The total ridership figure of Delhi Metro has been consistently increasing for past three months showing an impressive 44 per cent increase till date.
The Metro ridership has gone up from around 10 lakh in May 2010 to over 14 lakh as on Monday. Currently, over 130 train sets are in operation on the five lines of Delhi Metro with a new train being added on the system every 10 to 15 days.
