After impacting power generation and industries badly, it is now the turn of the tourism sector to bear the brunt of the heavy rains.

With the death of two army officers, who were on trekking in the high altitude Chamoli district, most trekkers and other adventurers are now returning back from mountainous regions fearing landslides.

The occupancy rate in hotels in the hill state, especially in hill resorts like Mussoorie and Nainital, has come down drastically.

Uttarakhand Hotel Association President S P Kochar told Business Standard that the rains had caused big losses to the hotel industry in the state.

"The occupancy rate has fallen sharply from 80 per cent to around 35 per cent in most of the hotels in the state," Kochar said.
